Selgars House

A few weeks ago, we finally made the trip to see our dear friends, Duncan and Linnea, who this summer made the big move and purchased a beautiful small holding in Devon. Ever since we met them in London a few years ago, they had been talking about owning a small piece of land, where they could grow their own vegetables, rear their own animals and live a more sustainable life. Now they have it!

We had a lovely weekend exploring the countryside and their new home. Half of the house was built in the 17th century and the other half in the 19th Century, it oozed history and was a beautiful maze of staircases, interlinking rooms and roaring fireplaces. It was a great place for the children to charge around and play hide-and-seek.

Both Duncan and Linnea have been avid followers of our exploits from the very beginning, so we were really interested to hear their plans and see what they intend to do whilst living in the Devon countryside.

Although, they only moved in June this year, they had already grown some of their own vegetables, harvested apples from their orchard and met locals who were willing to help out and pass on advice and life experience. Linnea has been on a bee course and intends to start her own colony next year to help with their planned wild flower meadow and to harvest some honey.

The following week, the diggers were arriving to install a ground source heat pump system, so that they could generate most of their heating from the ground. They also plan to install photovoltaics very soon, with the ambition to be off-grid one day. All very exciting stuff and we can't wait to go back for a bit of glamping next to their lake!
